Shows I researched:
Black Doves, The Perfect Couple, Sherlock, Squid Game, Breaking Bad
Black Doves (2024)
For Black Doves, the main target audience is woman due to the show having a female lead character. It may also target adult men, as a male character is shown in the poster in the background. The show includes two famous actors, possibly targeting fans of the actors to watch the show. The series involves violence, as pictured with the guns, so will be directed at young adults and adults. With the red, bold text it applies to the thriller genre as red is usually linked to danger and even blood- indicating the show involves some of this. It has a bleak colour scheme with black and red being used, and the use of the characters serious facial expressions leaves the viewers questioning who they are and what their intent is. They are not pointing the guns at each other, but to the sides which may indicate they are on the same team. The Perfect Couple (2024)
For The Perfect Couple, the main target audience could be young adults of mixed genders, due to the poster including both genders and different ages, however it mostly targets adult woman. It could also target teens due to having young characters within the poster. The colour scheme is unusual for a thriller, especially with the pink and yellow font often being used in brighter genres and the font being more classic. However, the use of blood on the beach and the numbers to indicate a crime, the thriller aspect is reinforced, and viewers are left with mystery. With the use of the family members walking in a line across the beach, this could show to the viewer the different targets of the murder and the victim in the show. As the father and mother are first in the line, they may be the ‘Perfect Couple’ linking to the title. They may also be the main characters in the show.
Sherlock (2010)
For Sherlock, the main target audience could be fans of the character ‘Sherlock Holmes’ or simply those who have heard of him and are interested in the thriller genre. It could also target males due to having two appear in the poster. It could also be targeting an older population, due to Sherlock being a character created a while ago. They are pictured with serious facial expressions, applying to the thriller genre. The background is London, so we get an idea of the setting throughout the show and is also gloomy matching the genre. The colour scheme is dark, and the main colours used are black and a light blue fading into a black. The caption reads ‘the game is on’ which may leave viewers questioning what the game refers to. The characters are shown to be in black, spy like clothing linking to the thriller genre. The characters are also shown to have their backs to each other, indicating they are a team.
