TV Thriller Planning - Final Idea

Planning for TV Thriller   For my TV thriller, it is a mystery crime concept. A small coastal town s community i s left on edge after 5 disappearances take place . T he two main characters return to their hometown after years away, after both studying to become journalists, only to find out that their childhood friends are among  the missing people. After trying to uncover the reason behind the disappearances, sh e begins to delve deeper into the town’s dark past and a series of secrets that are connected to the disappearances. Each episode brings them closer to the hidden past of the town and finally uncovering the truth of the disappearances.   The main target audience is 16–25-year-olds, and mine wi ll specifically try to target women. My adverts will appeal to the target audience by including two women within this age bracket .

Statement of Intent

Statement of Intent   Media Institutions   For my posters, I will make sure they adhere to the rules of the ASA. I will ensure this by making sure they are suitable for everyone to view, as they will be displayed at bus stops around towns and city centres , where anyone can view them even if they are not the target audience . They will not co ntain any offensive or graphic content, allowing them to be suitable for any audience or age group - particularly children, as they are not the target audience but still should not be harmful to them. The series will not be broadcast on TV, it will be on ITVX, so it will not need to be scheduled afte r the watershed to protect younger audiences .    Media Representation   To make the series appealing to its target audiences, it must be portrayed in a positive light to ensure they are interested in watching the show. I intend on targeting the show mainly at women, so the two main characters will be women. In ...

Numerical data and financial information

Numerical data and financial information   When Breaking Bad was first released in 2008, it received 1.4 million viewers. Due to it being released on Netflix, the finale in 2013 received about 10.3 million viewers. Breaking Bad itself has established a global fanbase, there are community pages, YouTube videos and many memes circulating the internet once again proving its popularity. Sherlock on BBC one was watched by an average of 9.2 million people , it peaked at 9.7 million in the first 5 minutes. These high figures once again prove the popularity of these TV thrillers, both in the UK and globally. ‘The Perfect Couple’ generated 1.9 billion viewing minutes, and the viewership was driven by an audience that was 70% female.

History of the Thriller genre

History of the thriller genre   The thriller genre dates back to hundreds of years ago , but it began to develop a recogn isable style in the 1800s and early 1900s . One of the first most popular TV thrillers released in 1960s was an American series called Thriller. It included a mix of horror tales and suspens e thrillers. Some thrillers are more popular than others possibly due to genre. Psychological thrillers are often more popular due to its hooking storyline that keeps an audience engaged and questioning each second- it aims to really get you thinking as a viewer. There are also many true story thrillers that are popular due to its psychological element, for example, the Monster anthology series based on true crime stories on Netflix. The intensity of thrillers also make s them more popular. Thrillers like Breaking Bad are extremely popular due to its representation, covering different topics like crime, drug use and morality making them more interesting - with th...

Popularity of the Thriller genre

Popularity of the thriller genre :    The thriller genr e is so appealing to its audience as it aims to get you hooked within the first episode or in the opening of the movie. The genre also seems to have a movie or series for everyone, due to the different topics within thriller, including crime , horror or detective fiction . Thrillers also bring together a combination of popular elements such as intense storylines, relatable characters and high-quality production. A good thriller will leave the audience questioning each moment and on the edge of their seats, each episode building suspense making the viewer want to finish the movie or series until the end to uncover the mystery. Thrillers are often also psychological, so will help engage the viewers in the plot allowing them to try uncover what is occurring.     An ex ample of a popular TV thriller is Squid Game, which gained a lot of popularity globally in 2020. It is a dystopian thriller, so ...

TV Thriller Research

Image
TV Thriller Research   Shows I researched:    Black Doves, The Perfect Couple, Sherlock, Squid Game, Breaking Bad Black Doves (2024)   For Black Doves, the main target audience is woman due to the show having a female lead character. It may also target adult men, as a male character is shown in the poster in the background. The show includes two famous actors, possibly targeting fans of the actors to watch the show. The series involves violence, as pictured with the guns, so will be directed at young adults and adults. With the red, bold text it applies to the thriller genre as red is usually linked to danger and even blood- indicating the show involves some of this. It has a bleak colour scheme with black and red being used, and the use of the characters serious facial expressions leaves the viewers questioning who they are and what their intent is. They are not pointing the guns at each other, but to the sides which may indicate they are on the same team....
