History of the Thriller genre
History of the thriller genre
The thriller genre dates back to hundreds of years ago, but it began to develop a recognisable style in the 1800s and early 1900s. One of the first most popular TV thrillers released in 1960s was an American series called Thriller. It included a mix of horror tales and suspense thrillers. Some thrillers are more popular than others possibly due to genre. Psychological thrillers are often more popular due to its hooking storyline that keeps an audience engaged and questioning each second- it aims to really get you thinking as a viewer. There are also many true story thrillers that are popular due to its psychological element, for example, the Monster anthology series based on true crime stories on Netflix. The intensity of thrillers also makes them more popular. Thrillers like Breaking Bad are extremely popular due to its representation, covering different topics like crime, drug use and morality making them more interesting- with the help of the intense storyline and well-developed characters.
